Lamet Shamel gifts Jean De Mieulle his first PA Group victory

Lamet Shamel ridden by Olivier d'Andigné

The race was run at strong gallop and the 5-year-old Lamet Shamel (AF Albahar) capitalised to win her first PA Group prize, The President of the United Arab Emirates Cup (Gr2 PA), at Baden-Baden on Sunday, September 5th. Under stable jockey Olivier d'Andigné, the mare beat France’s Almafjar (Mister Ginoux) by half a length. The latter, gaining black type for the first time, boasts three wins in France

Lamet Shamel only visited the racecourse for the first time as a 4-year-old at the backend of the 2020 season, and she has been very well managed by her young trainer, Jean de Mieulle. She had recently finished second in the President of the UAE Cup (Gr3 PA). This also represented a great moment for the mare’s owner-breeder, Waleed Ben Zaied, a Libyan national who breeds horses in France.

Next stop Holland. Jean de Mieulle told us: "What a great feeling! She prevailed in a big field and beat two quality customers. She’s a healthy mare and a lightly raced one at that: and still has some very good days ahead of her. I’m very happy for the owner-breeder, Waleed Ben Zaied. The race was a run at a very strong gallop, and, when the front runner gave way, it encouraged her to go and win the race. I’m also very happy for the whole team. Six of us ride out in the morning and the work undertaken is exemplary. It also represents a great triumph for our private training centre. We will now go for a PA Group prize in Holland."

Lamet Shamel was bred by Waleed Ben Zaied (Qardabiyah Stables). Her sire, AF Albahar (Amer), covers from the Haras de Thouars. The dam, Valuta Khan (Depozit), has a totally Russian pedigree. This family distinguished itself in both the endurance and racing spheres. The grandam Vspyshka (Naftalin) produced Nagan (Nimraz), the 1991 Russian PA Horse of the Year, when successful in the Russian PA Derby. The fourth dam, Prikhot (Sport), won the Russian PA Oaks. She lowered two Russian records over 1,800m and 2,000m. Valuta Khan is inbred to Prikhot.
