The Al Bida Stud-owned TEXAS wins very comfortably the Asherij Cup

Al Rayyan Racecourse hosted the third meeting of the current season with the eight-race card Asherij Cup Day held on the dirt track on Wednesday, 20 October. The Al Bida Stud-owned TEXAS (QA) (TM Fred Texas x Al Moqawama) was the runaway winner of the feature event of the day as she landed the Asherij Cup, a Local Purebred Arabian Conditions for Fillies and Mares very comfortably by three lengths.

In doing so, the six-year-old mare gave her owner and her trainer Zuhair Mohsen their first win and cup in the 2021-22 season. She was ridden to victory by Marco Casamento, who had a quick-fire double as he won the penultimate race as well.

TEXAS broke well from gate 5 to settle in mid-position in the early stages of the seven-runner field. She progressed around the first bend to track the early leader VALENTINA (QA) (TM Fred Texas x Al Fayeza) and closed at the final bend to join and pass her to run alone in front and win the race.

The closing stages saw both GHANAYEM (QA) (AF AlBahar x Hebob Al Naif) in the colours of Abdullah Bin Ali Bin Khalifa Al Attiya and her sister the Al Jeryan Stud-owned AJS Berline (QA) (AF AlBahar x Dormaline) coming from behind to finish second for trainer Owaida Salem Al Hajri and jockey Anas Al Seyabi and third for trainer M.H.K Al Attiyah and jockey Szczepan Mazur respectively. It was a quarter length margin between the runner-up and the third placed. The long-time leader VALENTINA finished fifth.
