The Purebred Arabian three-year-old YUNUS (Assy x Nisaee / Dormane) carried the silks of his owner, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani to a clear success when winning the Prix Mohamed Oukili (Maiden) at Agen on Sunday, October 24.
Trained by François Rohaut, the colt was having his third career start and looked to benefit from a step up to 2,500m. With first-time blinkers applied, Yunus scored with authority under a confident ride from jockey Matthias Lauron.
Settled against the rail in third through the early stages, Yunus travelled strongly. A good pace was set in front by the free-going Na’Aman Al Cham (Hilal Al Zaman x Al Saklawiya / Al Sakbe) down the back straight. Always travelling well, Yunus looked to have the measure of his ten rivals on the turn for home.
Once in the straight, Yunus was switched out by Lauron and pulled clear of his rivals. Hitting the line running, Yunus scored by five lengths over Falaah (AF Albahar) who came from off the pace to be second, while Na’Aman held on gamely for third.
Bred by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Al Shahania Stud, Yunus is by Haras De Thouars stallion Assy (Amer). His dam Nisaee (Dormane) won five races in Doha and has produced multiple winners, including the Group 1 (PA) scorer Mkeefa (Amer).
