The multiple-Group placed Alhafar (FR) (Al Mamun Monlau x Farh by Nizam) scored his first victory on Sunday, 13 June when taking the Wathba Stallions Cup III for owner and breeder Al Shaqab Racing at the Belgian track of Waragem.
The four-year-old colt is trained in France by Mrs JF Bernard and had placed four times at Group PA level as a three-year-old, closing his 2020 season with a 3rd place in the Prix Chere Bibi (Gr.3 PA) over a mile at Toulouse on 24 October. He had previously finished second twice at black-type level.
First, he was the runner up in the Qatar Coupe De France Des Chevaux Arabes (Gr.2 PA) over a mile at La Teste de Buch on 18 June last year to the H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Abbes, a dual group winner.
He occupied the same place in the Prix Tidjani (Gr.3 PA) over 1,900m at the same racecourse, less than a month later, behind Sheail Bin Khalifa Al Kuwari’s Hadi De Carrere, the dual Gr.1 PA winner of the Al Rayyan Cup and the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Poulains.
Alhafar opened his 2021 season in April with a 6th place at La Teste de Buch. However, he showed his class under jockey Stephane Breux to win on Sunday.
Alhafar is by Al Shaqab’s young Purebred Arabian sire Al Mamun Monlau, who stands at Haras du Grand Courgeon in France. His dam, Farh, daughter of Nizam, was a multiple Group PA winner for Al Shaqab Racing, also trained by Mrs JF Bernard.
Alhafar is her first offspring. She has a three-year-old colt by TM Fred Texas and he is with the same trainer as well. She is a direct descendant of French foundation Purebred Arabian matriarch Mandore.
