Ghara shines in Qatar Silver Sword

After a string of runner-up finishes, Ghara (Azadi x Jade Du Paon) delivered when it mattered most, surging home powerfully in the final 100m to seal a well-earned 1½ length victory in the Qatar Silver Sword for 4YO Purebred Arabians over 2100m – the day’s second race. Trained by Hamad Al-Jehani and ridden by Lukas Delozier, the bay filly bounced back to winning ways, giving owner Al Wasmiyah Farm a memorable victory.
The race saw an early contest for the lead, with Mohimma (Al Mourtajez), Ajlaan (AF AlBahar), Al Mubhir (Al Mamun Monlau), Ghara and Labwa De Carrere (AF AlBahar) all vying for position. It was Ajlaan who eventually took the lead, with Ghara settled in a handy position, just behind the leaders. As they entered the home straight, Ajlaan still held the advantage, but Ghara was soon unleashed by Delozier and her response was impressive and she won by one and a half lengths. Lippo De Carrere (Al Mourtajez), owned by Wathnan Racing, trained by Alban de Mieulle, and ridden by Soufiane Saadi, finished strongly to claim second place, while Al Muthqafah (AF AlBahar), owned by Khalifa bin Sheail KH J Al Kuwari, trained by Zuhair Mohsen, and ridden by Jefferson Smith, took third, a further half a length behind.
Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, QREC Board Member, crowned the winners.
