Owned by Al Shaqab Racing, the four-year-old pure-bred Arabian HM AL SAKEB (Azadi x Morgane De Piboul) took the Prix Kann at Dax on Sunday, September 12th.
Trained by Thomas Fourcy, HM AL SAKEB got back to winning ways on his first start since finishing sixth in the Qatar Derby Des Pure-Sang Arabes De 4ans ay Chantilly in June. He was ridden by Julien Auge and is now two wins from five career starts.
Keen early, HM AL SAKEB pulled his way to the front of the 2,100m and led the ten runners at a strong pace. He was briefly challenged in the back-straight for the lead by CELTIC TALOOT (Al Mamun Monlau). Always travelling strongly, it was clear from 400m out that HM AL SAKEB was a class above his rivals and was the only one on the bridle on entering the home straight. RYSK TOUT (No Risk al Maury) was always prominent and tried to close the gap in the straight, but to no avail.
Pushed out by Auge, HM AL SAKEB went on to win comfortably by four lengths from the Charles Gourdain-trained and Maxime Foulon-ridden RYSK TOUT. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s SARHAN (Mared Al Sahra) showed some promise. However, the Francois Rohaut-trained and Matthias Lauron-ridden colt finished further five lengths back in third.
Bred by H. Mousli & N. Moussalli, HM AL SAKEB is by Haras De Thouras’ stallion AZADI (Darike). His dam, MORGANE DE PIBOUL (Djourman) was a winner over 1,200m and has produced six individual winners including AL MOUWAFFAK (Azadi), winner of the 2014 Qatar Trophy De Poulains (Group One PA) at Saint-Cloud.
