Luwsail clinches Qatar Gold Sword with gritty victory

In the final and feature race of the day, Luwsail (Al Mourtajez x Al Dowha) added another prestigious Gr1 PA victory to his record with a remarkable performance in the Qatar Gold Sword, a 2100m race for 4YO Purebred Arabians. The 5YO showed exceptional determination and stamina, fighting hard to the final stride and securing the Sword by a neck from the excellent runner-up, Moshrif (Dahess). Bred and owned by Al Shaqab Racing, trained by Jean de Mieulle and ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, who completed a treble on the day, Luwsail's victory further solidifies his status at the highest level.
The race unfolded with Luwsail quickly establishing himself at the front, leading from the outset with Raed (Amer x Andarah) in close pursuit. As the pack settled, Al Zwair (TM Fred Texas x Zenhobie) took over the front-running position, pushing Luwsail back to third. The trio of leaders—Luwsail, Al Zwair, and Raed—maintained a tight formation, with little separating them as they galloped down the backstretch. As the field entered the home straight, the pace quickened, and Luwsail found a powerful second wind. In the final 250 meters, he was locked in an intense duel with Moshrif (Dahess x Tashreefat) and Nabucco Al Maury (Assy x Nemosie Al Maury), with all three pushing toward the line. In a thrilling finish, Luwsail managed to find just enough under pressure to edge Moshrif by a neck, securing a hard-fought victory. Moshrif, trained by Zuhair Mohsen and ridden by Jim Crowley, put up a strong challenge to finish a gallant second while Nabucco Al Maury, owned by Dukhan Racing and trained by Hamad Al-Jehani, claimed third place, a further one and a half lengths behind, under the guidance of jockey Szczepan Mazur.
His Excellency Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani presented the Qatar Gold Sword to the winners at the conclusion of Div. 2 of the The Qatar Gold Sword Meeting on Thursday, 10 April at Al Uqda racecourse. The four-race card day, conducted on turf, was a showcase of exceptional skill and determination, with thrilling performances from some of the finest Purebred Arabian and Thoroughbred horses in the sport.
Khalifa bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah received the prestigious sword on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing, the owner of Luwsail, who secured another remarkable Gr1 PA victory to add to his distinguished record.
